Auditions are open to adults
and teens 14 and older.
Everyone must audition as outlined below.
Production Dates: November 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 2013

Rehearsals
will start Monday, September 9, 2013. Rehearsals
are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Rehearsals
start promptly at 7:00 p.m. and go until 10:00 p.m. (Not
all performers will need to attend all rehearsals). An additional Sunday afternoon Sitzprobe or
rehearsal will be scheduled in October. Tech
Week begins November 10th.
Audition Instructions

- Auditions for the Ensemble - 7:00-7:45 PM on May 20 and 21.
> Ensemble auditioners need to sign up for an audition day (either Monday 5/20 or
Tuesday 5/21) by using the online Audition
Request Form or by sending an email with your name, contact information, and preferred
audition day to auditions@savoyardlightopera.org.
Our Audition Coordinator, Susie Schmidt, will confirm your audition.
> Arrive promptly by 7:00 PM on
your chosen audition day (May 20 or 21).
> Complete and bring the required audition forms with you when you come to audition.
Please also review SLOC's Rehearsal and Cast Policy.
> Your photo will
be taken, and you will be measured for costuming purposes.
> Ensemble
auditioners will be taught their part in the audition song as a group and then you will be
asked to sing your part. Music files are posted below if you would
like to review before auditions.
> SLOC alumni, whose talent and
previous contributions are well known, who wish to audition for Ensemble but are unable to
make the scheduled audition dates may be placed on a wait list. Once auditions are
completed they may be cast as Ensemble by the Audition Committee if there is space
available for them.
Auditions for Principal Roles -
7:50-9:50 PM on May 20 & 21.
> Lead auditioners should schedule a 10 minute audition slot on either
May 20 or 21. with the Audition Coordinator via this website. You may sign up online by
using the online Audition Request Form
or by sending an email with your name, contact information, and preferred audition time to
auditions@savoyardlightopera.org.

> Please arrive 15 minutes before your audition time in order to have photo taken
and costume measurements taken.
> Complete and bring the required audition
forms with you when you come to audition.
Please also review SLOC's Rehearsal and Cast Policy.
> Come prepared to sing a Gilbert and Sullivan song or a song in Gilbert and
Sullivan style. Bring sheet music for the accompanist. Your audition piece should be in
English and 32 measures or less.
> Plan to do a reading from The Mikado. A script will be provided for you.
> Note:
No special audition dates will be provided. In order to be considered for a role in this
show you must attend the scheduled audition dates and times. Once casting is completed, if
there is a role not filled the Directors may call you to audition at a later date. Please
be sure to complete the Audition Information Form and Conflict Sheet and submit to the
Audition Coordinator so that we can contact you if the need arises.
- Callbacks.
Callbacks, if needed, will be held on Thursday, May 23, 7:00-9:30 PM. Notice of callbacks
will be posted on this website on Wednesday, May 22. Note that persons not called
back may still be cast.
- Casting Notice.
The names of everyone cast in the show will be posted on this website by Sunday May 26.
Roles:
Range numbers correspond to the piano, with each note numbered from left to right.
Middle C is C4.
- Nanki-Poo - Tenor (Eb3-A5). Poor and earnest wandering minstrel, but
intelligent; in love with Yum-Yum. He is secretly the son of the Mikado, and on the run
from Katisha.
- Ko-Ko -Baritone(G2-E4). Lord High Executioner, but he's never executed
anybody. Guardian of Yum-Yum and plans to marry her.
- Pooh-Bah - Baritone(A#3-Eb4). Lord High Everything Else. He is free
with his advice to Ko-Ko, and just about anyone else, for a price.
- Pish-Tush - Bass(G2-E4). Noble lord.
- Mikado -Bass (F2-C4). The big cheese, the head honcho.
- Yum-Yum - Soprano (E4-Ab6). Ward of Ko-Ko. Although she loves
Nanki-Poo, she's not willing to die, or even inconvenience herself overly much, to marry
him.
- Pitti-Sing - Mezzo (Bb4-F5). Ward of Ko-Ko and sister of Yum-Yum. She
is quick-witted, and allies with Ko-Ko and Pooh-Bah to try to trick the Mikado.
- Peep-Bo - Mezzo (D4-D5). Ward of Ko-Ko and sister of Yum-Yum.
- Katisha - Contralto (Ab4-F5). The "heavy" in the play, she
tries to force Nanki-Poo to marry her by accusing him of flirting.
